Bucher Municipal Limited has selected JCB engines to power its latest, Stage V compliant road sweepers with the first machines set to roll off the production line this month.
From the introduction of Stage V legislation, JCB will become sole engine supplier for truck mounted equipment produced in the UK by Bucher Municipal (previously Johnston Sweepers). With 70% of the Bucher Municipal products manufactured in the UK now exported to more than 80 countries, the move will see JCB engines helping to keep city streets clean all over the world.
Following the successful integration and outstanding performance of JCB engines into the Bucher Group’s sweeper portfolio at each stage of new emissions legislation since the introduction of Stage IIIA regulations in 2011, the relationship continues to go from strength with the selection of the 97kW JCB 448 engine at Stage V.
Engineers at JCB Power Systems have worked closely with Bucher Municipal on new engine integrations at each stage of new emissions legislation since Stage IIIA.

JCB Power Systems has updated the performance and design of the new engine specified by Bucher Municipal and it boasts a power increase of 5kW over its predecessor. The engine aftertreatment design has been tailored to allow Bucher Municipal to retain the same exhaust outlet position as with Stage IV. Further design flexibility from JCB Power Systems has enabled Bucher Municipal to utilise its own induction system, mounting the TMAF sensor in a location, which works effectively on the sweeper. The new sweepers will also adopt the modular cooling pack featured on the JCB 430 Stage V 55kW engine used in Bucher Municipal’s smaller machines.
