Northern Ireland’s leading demolition contractor has praised the performance of a fleet of JCB demolition excavators at one of Belfast’s highest profile projects.
McCormack Demolition – the first Northern Ireland based contractor to become a member of the NFDC - is currently using a series of JCB models at the new University of Ulster Belfast Campus development - a £250m project to be sited at York Street adjacent to and opposite the existing Belfast campus building.
The dismantling of existing buildings – now well in progress - will pave the way for approximately 76,500 sqm of new university space, and 6,500 sqm of refurbished space to be constructed. When completed it will accommodate up to 15,000 students and staff currently based at Jordanstown.
The McCormack fleet includes five JCB models - with a JS360XD, JS330HRD and two JS220 models recently joined by a new JCB JS290XD. Throughout the University of Ulster project several of the JCBs have been on site, carrying out demolition and ground clearance works.
Tailor-made for demolition, each of the XD (Extra Duty) machines features a strengthened boom and dipper, side and rear impact protection, rugged undercarriage guards and plating, side rail protection systems and FOPS cab guards.
Director, Eamonn McCormack said: “We have operated JCB excavators for over 20 years now and the XD models come ready for work. The new models are super machines and provide a robust solution. Our fleet of different sized JCB’s means we can match the right machine to the requirements of each job on site. They are performing well on this high profile project. The support from our dealer BC Plant JCB at Hillsborough is also excellent.”
Belfast-based McCormack Demolition undertakes work projects throughout the province, in the Republic of Ireland, and in Scotland, England and Wales. The Company carries out all types of demolition projects - ranging from private housing sites to retail, industrial and commercial premises. Demolition of high-rise structures such as residential blocks and multi-storey car parks form part of its’ routine activities.
